Terms of Use

These terms apply to use of Abilene Residents Directory. By using the service, you accept them. Do not use the service if you do not agree.

1. Nature of This Service

Abilene Residents Directory is a privately run reference. It describes and links to public rolls, indexes, and directory collections that may contain Abilene or Texas records. It does not host government files and has no affiliation with a public office, court, library, or records custodian.

2. Lawful Use Rules

Use the service only for lawful purposes. You may not use it, or material located through it, to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make FCRA-regulated decisions (credit, employment, tenant, insurance)
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the site's content at scale
  • Interfere with the site's operation or security

3. No Consumer Reporting Role

This service is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. ยง 1681 et seq. Nothing here or returned by a linked search service is a consumer report. It may not be used to determine eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or any other FCRA-covered purpose.

4. Linked Services

Government portals and outside services, including sponsored search tools, operate under their own policies and terms. We are not responsible for their content, availability, fees, or handling of data.

5. No Warranties

The service is offered "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any type. We do not promise that its material is accurate, complete, or current, or that a linked portal will remain available or return correct results.

6. Limits of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from use of this service or a linked resource, including a decision made from material found through it.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold the service operators harmless from a claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that results from misuse of the service or violation of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

Original text, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Linking to a page or quoting a short excerpt with attribution is permitted; republishing complete pages or systematically copying the material is not.

9. Changes to Terms

We may revise these terms by posting an updated version here. Continued use after a revision constitutes acceptance.

10. Restricting Access

We may block or restrict a user who violates these terms or abuses the service, at our discretion and without notice.

11. Governing Law

Texas law governs these terms without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Record-access references on the service include the Texas Public Information Act, Texas Government Code Chapter 552, but that statute does not alter these private terms or require a custodian to release protected material.

12. Severability

If one provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
